Breezepelt

"Your mother betrayed my father as well as her Clan. You have no right to be a medicine cat. No right to even live among the Clans. I'll never forgive you for what you've done! Never!"

—Breezepelt snarling at Jayfeather in The Fourth Apprentice, page 159

Breezepelt is a black tom with amber eyes.[1]

Kit

Breezepelt was born in WindClan. His mother is Nightcloud and his father is Crowfeather. His kit name is Breezekit, and his apprentice name is Breezepaw.

He was said to have other siblings, though it is unknown what happened to them. As a kit, Breezepelt was feed with poison.

He always wondered why his father never met him. His mother would tell him about his father and how he was.

Apprentice

Breezepaw's mentor was Whitetail.

When there was the apprentice competition, Breezepaw went into squirrel hunting against Owlpaw of ShadowClan. At another competion, Breezepaw and Lionpaw fall into an abandoned badger nest and almost suffocated.

If it had not been for Jaypaw, they would've died. His father, Crowfeather, never praised him, leading him to think his father hated him.

He and some other apprentices scented dogs.

Onestar sends him to the mountains with his father Crowfeather to help the Tribe of Rushing Water. Breezepaw almost fell off a mountain ledge in Outcast.

Warrior

Breezepelt started to train in the Dark Forest because of his hatred for his father.

He trained along with Ivypaw and others who were drawn into the trap. When Breezepelt saw Jayfeather at Moonpool, he attacks him, trying to kill Poppyfrost to frame his hated half-brother.

While attacking him, Brokenstar helps as well. Honeyfern stops Breezepelt and Brokenstar, and drives them off. Also, in the Last Hope, Breezepelt attacks Lionblaze, and pins him down.

Breezepelt was one of the few cat that understood what the Dark Forest was planning. After pinning Lionblaze he was about to kill him, but his father, Crowfeather, pushes him off and tells him to stop.

Breezepelt says that he knew that Crowfeather always hated him, but Crowfeather says that Nightcloud made him think that. After that Crowfeather tells his son to leave, Breezepelt obeys and flees away.

Trivia

  • In After Sunset: We Need to Talk, it states that Nightcloud had more than one kit, however it's not known what happened to the others. This has since been contradicted by Kate on her blog, who says that the several kits thing was probably mentioned before the Erins had thought the plot through.[2]
  • Breezepelt is a descendant of the first WindClan leader, Windstar, because his father, Crowfeather, is [3]descended from her.[4]
  • Kate said on her blog that she liked the idea of Nightcloud and Breezepelt on the run as rogues, and Crowfeather leaving WindClan to go and find them.[5]
  • Prior to the release of The Fourth Apprentice, Heathertail was still in love with Lionblaze, and harbored no romantic feelings toward Breezepelt. However, their relationship is more complex than just friends.[6] However, after Fading Echoes was released, it was revealed that Heathertail no longer cares for Lionblaze.[7]
    • After the release of Bramblestar's Storm, it was revealed that during the gap between that book and The Apprentice's Quest, Heathertail and Breezepelt had become mates,[8] and Kate Cary believes that it is because they wanted to redeem Breezepelt, and help him become the happy, loyal, and true warrior that he should have been.[9]
