Whiteclaw is a very minor character. A border fight is aroused when RiverClan catches ThunderClan and WindClan cats heading through their territory; the fight occurs threateningly close to the gorge's edge. When Graystripe and Whiteclaw as fighting along the edge, Whiteclaw slips over the side, grabbing onto the ledge. Graystripe tries to help him, but he falls to his death. His death had been prophesied by WindClan's medicine cat, Barkface, earlier in the novel. StarClan had given him a sign through red clouds at Barley's barn, which he interpreted as "unnecessary blood will be spilled today". When Leopardfur saw what happened, she called the battle to an end, and said that Whiteclaw would be avenged. Later, when Graystripe joins RiverClan, Leopardstar still does not trust him.
